The Dreamscape Garden

Young Designer Gardens

In more detail

  • The colour pink is frequently repeated through the garden, picked up from the stone wall to painted concrete elements and planting including salvias, sedums, and echinacea
  • Moon-like heads of umbels Ammi majus and wild carrot Daucus carota add to the nighttime feeling, suspended above a flowing matrix of grasses including Stipa tenuissima

About the garden

The ability to escape reality into a dreamlike environment provided the impetus for this garden design. A strange sculptural form greets the visitor at its entrance, its shape repeated in the moon recess cut into the rear wall of the garden, the circular reflecting pool and the undulating planting beds.

The stone-clad wall is interrupted by a vast pink form into which a seating area is recessed. The whole space provides opportunities to sit, breathe and take in the surroundings. In the centre of the space, a curved bench is hugged by ethereal planting – an ideal place to pause.

A restricted colour palette, and a focus on form, texture and movement in the planting design enhance the dreamscape quality.
