Always popular with visitors, Show Gardens provided plenty of inspirational gardening ideas. Affordable Gardens were new for 2022 and had been created using a strict budget and plants available in the Floral Marquee. The Feature Gardens made a welcome return, including a first for the RHS – the Vitamin G Garden. Created to be immersive-walk-through spaces, these gardens, which are not judged for medals, allowed visitors to get closer to horticulture.
The Floral Marquee was host to 56 hand-picked nurseries offering top-quality plants. At the centre of the marquee was a display of vintage carts overflowing with seasonal plants and produce from specialist growers. Making their Malvern debuts were G&K Carnations, Harriet’s Plants, Lincolnshire Pond Plants and Ottershaw Nursery. Malvern regular Pheasant Acre Plants was awarded Master Grower and launched its new bulb subscription service.
Our four talks theatres, Festival, Bloom, Nourish and Nurture, were each hosted by a well-known personality and featured fascinating talks, daily demonstrations and question and answer sessions. With a variety of special guests, including Monty Don, Arit Anderson, Jonathan Moseley and Raymond Blanc, visitors could find their favourite and bag a spot in the audience.
The Grow area was the go-to place for expert tips and advice from the national specialist plant societies. It was also where visitors could get involved in the Grow to Show competitions by showing off their best garden produce. New for 2022, the vegetable allotment garden in association with the National Allotment Society, was designed by Malvern favourite Jon Wheatley, and was bursting with take-home ideas for visitors to try growing their own.
