Staying safe

Our foremost priority is always the health and safety of our members, visitors, staff and volunteers, and we ask that everyone continues to support efforts to reduce the spread of the virus. Additional safety and hygiene measures remain in place, including availability of hand sanitiser for visitors and staff, and enhanced cleaning.

We ask that everyone visiting Hyde Hall please familiarise themselves with the latest Government advice and follow these measures:

  • At busy times and in crowded areas, be mindful of the needs of others by making space and considering wearing a face covering if you are able
  • Please read the public health messaging displayed around Hyde Hall
  • Wash hands more frequently for at least 20 seconds

Facilities

  • Toilets available at the Welcome building and Hilltop garden
  • The children’s play area is open
  • The Reading Room remains closed
  • Additional areas of the garden where gardeners are working may be closed for a short while

To maintain accessibility for all our visitors we have:

  • Manual push wheelchairs available on the day
  • Two powered mobility scooters are available to hire. Please pre-book by calling 01245 402 019 or enquire on the day for availability
  • Accessible toilet facilities available at the entrance and Hilltop
  • Full accessibility across the garden, welcome building and garden centre
  • Accessibility entrance available on arrival

Please note: If you are feeling unwell or experiencing symptoms associated with Coronavirus (Covid-19) you will not be permitted entry to Hyde Hall.

How to cancel your booking
If you can't make your pre-booked time slot, please try to cancel it so that someone else can enjoy a visit. To cancel your booking, please email [email protected] at least 24 hours in advance and include your booking reference.

One carer or companion is admitted free of charge per wheelchair user, visually impaired visitor or another person whose disability necessitates a carer.
 
Dogs not allowed in garden

For the safety of all our visitors, dogs are not allowed in the garden, carparks or wider estate, with the exception of registered support dogs.

Getting here

Car-free

We welcome car-free visitors to Hyde Hall. When you travel to the garden by bus, cycle or on foot, we offer a car-free travel discount (see admission prices), when you provide proof of visiting car-free.

It's easy to reach us by train, bus, bike and foot. Plan your car-free journey at Good Journey.

By car

Hyde Hall is conveniently located just 20 minutes from the centre of Chelmsford and is signed from the A130 (southbound).

Sat Nav: CM3 8RA.

From the M25, leave the M25 at junction 29 for A127 (signed Southend). From the A127 exit onto the A132 (signed Wickford/South Woodham Ferrers).

From the A12, leave at junction 17, then at the roundabout take the second exit for the A130 (signed Southend/Basildon).

From the A130, Rettendon Turnpike roundabout follow the tourist attraction flower symbols towards South Woodham Ferrers on the A132. At the Shaw Farm roundabout turn into Willow Grove/Creephedge Lane.

Car parking is free.

By train

The closest stations are Chelmsford (about 12km/8 miles), Wickford (about 8km/5 miles) and South Woodham Ferrers (about 5km/3 miles). Taxis and/or buses will connect you to Hyde Hall. For times and tickets see the National Rail Enquiries website.

By bus

From Chelmsford Bus Station, Bus 3 (Chelmsford to Southend) runs to RHS Garden Hyde Hall every couple of hours (Monday–Saturday). Plan your journey at Good Journey.

Drone usage

We are concerned that the use of drones may introduce risks of injury to our staff or visitors, damage to our property, plants or local wildlife, or breaches of data protection laws. Personal drone usage is therefore prohibited at RHS Gardens. Commercial drone usage is also prohibited, save where occasionally commercial drone operators with suitable training and licences from the Civil Aviation Authority are allowed by the RHS to operate drones in an RHS Garden only where express permission has been provided to the drone operator in writing by the Head of RHS Garden Hyde Hall.

Dogs in the garden

No dogs allowed anywhere on site (including the car park and Hyde Hall estate).
Registered support dogs welcome in all areas.
 

Smoking policy

For the health & welfare of our visitors, we operate a no-smoking policy, inclusive of e-cigarettes, in or near certain areas of the garden, including: dining or food outlets, eating areas or terraces, picnic areas, covered spaces or buildings and the children’s play area. This may extend to other areas of the garden in periods of very dry weather.
