I got my own allotment in 2004 and have enjoyed it ever since

I’ve worked at wonderful Wisley since 2002. Since then I’ve had the pleasure of helping explain the stories behind the plants and garden designs that our visitors enjoy. As an Interpretation Officer I help to prepare maps, leaflets, panels and information for the internet.

Before I worked here I spent my weekdays working in IT and my weekends at a small, family-run plant nursery. I loved it! I started when I was 17 and carried on through university and beyond. So when the owners finally retired I combined my skills at the RHS. I’ve written columns, articles and books, including being one of four authors of the RHS Allotment Handbook. Having parents from a Grow Your Own generation and a childhood reminiscent of The Good Life, I got my own allotment in 2004 and have enjoyed it ever since.

I love plants and gardening, and I love sharing the knowledge about the joy a little patience, a little planning and a little observation can bring.
