D. macropodum is a large, evergreen shrub to about 6m high and wide with dark green, glossy, rhododendron-like leaves that tend to droop in winter, revealing the bright red leaf stalks. Young spring foliage is pale green, often flushed pink. Red male and green female petal-less flowers are borne on separate plants in late spring. Pollinated female plants produce heavily-bloomed black berries in autumn
'Heavy Metal' is a rhizomatous perennial grass forming clumps of upright metallic blue-grey leaves, turning yellow in autumn. Broad, diffuse, weeping panicles to 50cm long of tiny purple-green spikelets in early autumn
A. halimus is a compact semi-evergreen shrub to 2m, with striking, silvery-grey ovate leaves to 5cm long; occasionally bears insignificant greenish flowers in loose sprays in summer
C. involucratus is an evergreen perennial forming a clump of erect stems to 60cm, ending in a whorl of dark green, grassy leafy bracts; flowers insignificant, yellowish-green
F. sylvatica is a large, vigorous deciduous tree with a broad, spreading crown. Leaves broadly elliptic, yellow-green in spring, rich russet-brown in autumn. Flowers small, green, followed by bristly fruits
'Greenfinch' is a clump-forming perennial with rounded and shallowly lobed leaves and yellowish-green flowers on spikes to 1m tall
'New York Muscat' is a black dessert Muscat grape with a blackcurrant flavour. It has good disease-resistance, and is best grown on a warm wall or site
E. sessiliflora is an erect shrub, to 2m in height, with upright or spreading, needle-like leaves. Dense clusters of greenish-white, tubular flowers are produced from late winter to spring. Later, the sepals swell, protecting the seeds, to produce red or greenish-yellow fruiting clusters that turn brown and remain on the plant for several years
N. sinensis is a spreading deciduous tree or large shrub to 10m, with narrowly-ovate leaves to 15cm in length, bronze when young and turning to yellow and red in autumn. Flowers inconspicuous; fruits small, black, seldom seen
'Whichford' is a perennial to 1.2m in height, forming a clump with narrow leaves and slender stems bearing very fragrant, narrowly trumpet-shaped pale greenish-yellow flowers, to 10cm in width
